Seolta Scythe Clinic offers advice to people who are new to the Austrian scythe and want to find out if it’s the right tool for them, and for people who have some experience in using an Austrian scythe and want to improve their skills.
This can include advice on what size snath and which blade to buy or assessing the set-up of your scythe and how well it suits your body and movement. It can include improving how you approach a mowing task. Different types of vegetation require different mowing techniques. You can try different scythe blades and learn which blade is suitable for which task. We can take a look at your blade care and sharpening and test different whetstones. You can try a peening jig and a freehand peening anvil to find out which suits you best.
Seolta (SHOHL-ta) is Irish and means ‘well-directed, smooth-running, free, graceful’.
